Istanbul is counting for 16 January 2010: Opening program of 2010 culture capital of Europe

Istanbul is preparing for opening celebrations of 2010 European Cultue Capital. Istanbul people and other international upper level guests will join to the this celebration. The most well-known artists and groups of Turkey will perform in 7 different areas of Istanbul. President Abdullah GUL and prime minister Recep Tayyip ERDOGAN will also join the program. The program will start in Goldern Horn and then Istanbul people can watch activities at huge monitors that will be set in Taksim, Kadikoy, Sultanahmet, Beylikduzu, Pendik and Bagcilar. Tarkan, Mor ve Otesi, Mercan Dede, Nil Karaibrahimgil, Kirac and Zara will meet with Istanbul people. There will be an excellent fire show in Taksim before Tarkan concert and a balloon show in Kadikoy. Most of the museums will be open until 24.00.

29th International Istanbul film festival

The 29th International Istanbul film festival will perform during 3-18 april 2010 by Istanbul Culture and Art Foundation with the sponsorship of Akbank. "Altın Lale (Gold Tulip)" award will give to its winner in this festival. Turkish films that want to join this competiton must apply to Istanbul Culture and Art Foundation until 1 February 2010. Besides long feature films, long feature documentary and animation films can be join to festival as became last year. Yesim Ustaoglu will be the head of jury. Best film and best director will be awarded with 50.000 tl by Culture Ministry. And also best woman and man actor will be awarded with 10.000 tl by same ministry. For the memories of Onat Kutlar Fipresci awar will give and will be awarded with 30.000 dollars by Efes Pilsen.

Istanbul is preparing for 2010

New bilboards were hang up to several places of 2010 world culture capital Istanbul within activities. And most of the bilboards were renewed. New bilboards emphasized on Istanbuls' importance. The meaningful one in of them is absolutely the bilboard that was prepared for Hagia Sophia. It is written on that bilboard: "The Hagia Sophia is in Istanbul since 1472 years, always in the same place". And one person who saw the bilboard criticized Bartholomes for saying "I am feeling crucified like Jesus". That person said that the bilboard is reflecitng Turkeys' tolerance. Other bilboards shed light into Istanbul history.

World Press Photos Exhibition In Istanbul

Exhibition of World Press Photos 2009 that contains 198 awarded photos in different 10 categories was opened in Forum Istanbul. Exhibition arranged with the contrubition Forum Istanbul and Netherlands' Istanbul Consulate. A panel named as ''Sıcak Bölgelerden Sıcak Anlara Foto Muhabirliği'' was made. After the panel exhibition was opened. Netherlands' Istanbul Consulate said that, 5.508 photographers from 124 countries send their works to world press photos competition and it was arranged 52. time. And he invited all photograph lover to see exhibition. This exhibition also determines standards of this sector. Exhibition will be open until 12 January 2010 in Istanbul Forum. And another competition will arrange during the exhibition named as "shopping and life" by TGC.

Lina Sastri In Istanbul

Well-known Italian artist Lina Sastri will perform at 23 december in Istanbul. Fans of her will fill the Cemal Resit Rey concert hall. She gets amazing attention in Europe, America and Japan. Her fans will feel themselves in Naples for a while during the concert. She worked with famous theater actors and directors like Eduardo De Flippo, Giuseppe Patroni Griffi, Armando Pugliese, Roberto De Simone, Pierluigi Pizzi, Crivelli. She won Ubu and Curcio awards in Italy. She leaded the role play in "Baaria". She switched classical music to traditional music. She sing with Caetano Veloso, D.D.Bridgewater and Ray Charles. She performed in international musical shows also.

Iron pile will be removed from Hagia Sophia

CHP deputy of Istanbul Cetin Soysal made a speech to TBMM general assembly and criticized Istanbul 2010 European Culture Capital Agency's studies. He described agency as "untalented" and "clumsy" . Behalf on government state minister Yazıcı responsed her questions and gave information about the agency. Then said that 151 million Tl transferred to agency and 91 of it is expense. Yazıcı also defined that agency has a staff working devotedly. He continued to his speech and added: there are studies for lighting historical places such as Topkapi palace, Hagi Sophia, Istanbul walls, Haydarpasa Train Station and Sirkeci. Yazıcı points that Hagi Sophia has an iron pier since 1993 in weights of 190 ton. And told that the agency will arrange this bad appearance. Iron pier will be removed from Hagia sophia until this year end. Thus Hagia Sophia will meet his normal view. Finally spoke about the projects that came to agency. There were 2197 projects and 400 of them was accepted.

The angel with 6 wings named as Serafim in Hagia Sophia

Protected face of Serafim angel was discovered in Hagia Sophia Museum. It is protected nearly 160 years. The angel is known as guard of paradise entrace in Christian belief. Wings of angel could see, the face of it was discovered after the work said Gunay. There were another things like that was made between 900-1300 years. Gunay said that these works will finish until 2010 in the circumstances of 2010 Culture capital of Europe-Istanbul. Figure is in 50 meter height of museum. Gunay declared that as a exciting improvement for Turkey and world. Istanbul University Byzantine Art Specialist Dr. Feridun Özgümüs said that: Vasillius who is the father of the christian mythology saw this six wing-angel in his dream. Also told that the guard of Jesus' throne named as Kerubin is still uncovered in Hagia sophia museum.

Project works of Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture(ECOC) agency

ECOC agency gave information about their projects. 1990 project applications were made. And it is really good number for the Istanbul 2010. This applications made agency very happy. This 1990 projects will have the budget of 3 billion Tl nearly. 281 of them were accepted and the others are in still assesment level.

The Hagia Sophia is preparing for 2010

The Hagia Sophia Museum is rebuilding with the support of Istanbul European Culture Capital 2010 agency. Most important improvement will be the removing of the 55 meter construction stage that closing scene of the main dome of museum. Other arrangements are; restoration of half domes, repair of gallery area, garden will be arrange as open air museum.

About the Maiden's tower-Night view
